Did you know that 1 in 10 Idahoans lack consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life? That’s why local community leaders have come together to help fill the gap for families, seniors, and veterans struggling with food insecurity.
The Les Schwab Tire Centers Week of Giving, powered by the United Way of South Central Idaho, Albertson’s, Aramark, Clif Bar & Co., and other community partners, join together annually each December to donate time, financial assistance and in-kind products to help replenish six local food banks.
Last year, we provided 30,000 pounds of food, which serves 5,460 families a month! Our food helped replenish:
- Blaine County Hunger Coalition in Bellevue
- Martha & Mary's Food Pantry in Jerome
- Mustard Seed in Twin Falls
- South Central Community Action Partnership in Burley
- West End Food Pantry in Buhl
- U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs serving Southern Idaho
This year, Les Schwab Tire Centers is asking the community and their customers to help support their efforts by donating online to help stretch volume-buying discounts even further to provide more meals and hygiene supplies to those who need them most.
The United Way of South Central Idaho has championed the Week of Giving for the last few years through grant support, sponsorships, and private funding.
“We care about providing the building blocks for a good quality of life and want to move people from poverty to possibility, helping families be all they can be,” says Bill Maikranz, President and CEO of United Way of South Central Idaho. “This kind of community partnership allows us to do that.”
